The old friends from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," Mary and Rhoda, are reunited, only to discover that Mary has a daughter named Rose and Rhoda's daughter is named Meredith.

Mary is a sophisticated pastry chef who's struggling to keep the doors of her bakery open. Facing eviction, she decides to return back home with her fiancé, Brent, to collect a sizable engagement gift from her eccentric Texan family. But, when Brent is felled by allergies and unable to travel, Mary bails his identical-twin brother, Jake, out of jail and travels back home passing him off as her fiancé.

When loved ones are murdered, Elijah’s beliefs are compromised as he considers revenge. But a visit with Joseph and Mary may offer a new perspective.

In a pattern that many domestic sitcoms would follow over the next 15 years, the plotlines followed the exploits of zany Mary Kay. Her husband, Johnny, was a sane, sensible banker who had to rescue her from herself. (The Stearns were married in real life.) In December, 1948, Mary Kay gave birth to son Christopher. Because Mary Kay's pregnancy was hard to hide, his birth was incorporated into the show. Shortly after New Year's Day, 1949, Christopher was written into the show as a character. During shooting, he either lay in his bassinet or was held by one of the Stearns or Mary Kay's mother. Shot live in New York, where it was set. Sponsored by Anacin.
